In recent years Hengqin has strived to develop a cultural industry, with one of its primary cultural initiatives being the setting aside of a three-square kilometre area of land as the core of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Culture & Creative Industrial Zone.

Xiangzhou Port is one of the zone’s major projects.
Located in the middle of Hengqin Island and covering 93,803 square meters with floor space of 160,585 square meters, Xiangzhou Port Culture Block is an RMB1 billion (US$145.3 million) complex. The project is set to become a large themed cultural tourist venue featuring Chinese traditional folk arts and crafts. It will have 136 Siheyuan (quadrangle courtyards) integrating various classic architectural styles in a mood of serenity and elegance.
Constructed by Zhuhai Jingfu Tourism Development Co Ltd, Xiangzhou Port Culture Block will integrate exhibitions, leisure activities, tourism and shopping as well as an exhibition hall, museum and hotels.

Phase II of Xiangzhou Port Culture Block is now being built inside the main complex and is described as an international facility for South China focusing on red sandalwood displays and cultural exchanges. It will feature a range of cultural initiatives and a creative work environment including various business and leisure facilities.

By utilizing resources from Guangdong and the Hong Kong and Macau SARs, the zone will develop cultural and creative enterprises in Hengqin and explore practices that are replicable across the nation.
