Chimelong named world’s 11th most visited theme park

According to the latest survey released by the Themed Entertainment Association (TEA), Zhuhai Chimelong International Ocean Resort, located in Hengqin, was the 11th most-visited theme park in the world in 2017 with 9.7 million visitors.

The 2017 AECOM and TEA Theme & Museum Index Report revealed that visitation to Chimelong increased 15% from 2016 numbers, with the strong performance coming on the back of high hotel occupancy and off-season visitation.

TEA is the most prestigious evaluation organization in the themed entertainment industry. The annual study of most-visited theme or water parks and museums is conducted in conjunction with AECOM, an American provider of technical-professional and management-support services. TEA and AECOM have collaborated to produce and publish the Theme Index since 2006.

According to the report, the park’s excellent national marketing and advertising campaigns help keep traffic flowing to its resorts. The continual expansion of China’s high-speed rail network has also boosted the availability of convenient and affordable travel around the country.

New and innovative immersive entertainment at Chimelong was another contributing factor.

As previously reported by Hengqin Record, Chimelong was the only Chinese recipient of the Award for Outstanding Achievement given by TEA in April for the pioneering Journey of Lights parade show.

The upcoming second phrase of the theme park will include the Chimelong Marine Science Museum, the largest of its kind in the world. Preparations for its Ocean Adventure Park, Indoor Ocean World, Gondola Lift, Mountaintop Park and light-rail station are also underway.
