The 10th Hong Kong Intellectual Property Seminar and 2018 Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao Great Bay Area International Intellectual Property Operation Closed Door Summit – Zhuhai Station was held by Hengqin International Intellectual Property Exchange Center (HIPEX) on 7 August 2018.

Twenty-four experts from the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) China Office and the US Consulate General for Shanghai, Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan and Mainland China gathered to discuss the summit topic – “Demand and Future of Intellectual Property Operation in Great Bay Area”.

According to the organizer, the Hong Kong Intellectual Property Seminar is a professional seminar sponsored by the United States-China Intellectual Property Institute (USCIPI). It has been held for nine consecutive years since 2009. Each year is set around the latest development trends of the IP industry.

With the implementation of the strategy for the Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macau Greater Bay Area, the role and demand for international intellectual property rights have been highlighted. In this year’s seminar, the activities of Macau and Zhuhai Substations were specially added.

The Zhuhai Station event was hosted by the International Intellectual Property Exchange Center. Experts discussed and exchanged ideas, models and experience on the trend of IPR transactions and international operations. Meanwhile representatives from enterprises, IP service agencies and universities from the United States, Hong Kong, Macau and the mainland also introduced and shared views on their quality projects with regards to IP operation.

Founded in 2014, HIPEX – also known as the Seven-Stringed Lute National Platform – establishes and manages an experimental platform with financial innovation for the country’s public IP service platform, aiming to develop an online trading system with a core business focused on financial innovation, IPR transactions and international operations.

Before coming to Hengqin, the 2018 Great Bay Area IP Seminar Series held events in Hong Kong on 3 and 4 August, themed “Intellectual Capital and Intangibles in an Innovation Century” and another in Macau on 6 August titled “Intellectual Property Commercialization”.
