Hengqin opening the door to expats

Upon the invitation of the Zhuhai Municipal Human Resources & Social Security Bureau, 20 expats from around the world visited the Hengqin Planning Exhibition Hall, underground utility tunnel, Macao-Hengqin Youth Entrepreneurship Valley (Inno Valley HQ), and Xiangzhou Port Culture Block on 19 May to experience the fast-changing and development of Hengqin New Area.

According to the Zhuhai government, there are more than 2,000 expatriates working in Zhuhai, of whom 240 are recognized as High-End Foreign Talents. In recent years, the city has seen one foreign expat accepted into the Thousand Talents Plan, three earn the Chinese Government Friendship Award and four included in the Guangdong Pearl River Talents Plan. Twenty-three have been recognized as High-End Foreign Experts of Guangdong Province and now enjoy permanent residence in China.

At a special seminar held after their tour, the expats shared their suggestions and opinions with government representatives including Lian Weiguang, director of Zhuhai Municipal Human Resources & Social Security Bureau, and raised their concerns as to how Zhuhai plans to import and service foreign talent in the future, and how government policy will support foreigners looking to live and work in Zhuhai.

According to Lian, the Zhuhai government attaches great importance to the introduction of foreign talent and the provision of services to them. The government has rolled out numerous innovative policy measures and financial support as well as work permits and residency. The city will soon issue measures to start bringing in more foreign talent and offer greater services to aid their work and daily life.
