Macau and Zhuhai to deepen cooperation in TCM industry

At a meeting on 21 August in Zhuhai, Macau’s Secretary for Economy and Finance Leong Vai Tac and the Secretary of the Zhuhai Municipal Committee of the Chinese Communist Party, Guo Yonghang, exchanged opinions on various topics including cooperation on establishing Macau as a platform for the scientific and industrial development of traditional Chinese medicine as well as further development of the Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) Science and Technology Industrial Park of Co-operation between Guangdong and Macao (GMTCM Park).

As Hengqin Record reported last week, during the first plenary meeting of the leading group for the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area, the Central Government expressed support for the development of Macau as a platform of traditional Chinese medicine with modern technology. Hengqin’s GMTCM Park, co-funded by the Macau and Zhuhai governments, will play a key role.

The GMTCM Park, as a new professionalized platform for scientific innovation of TCM, will strengthen close cooperation within the Greater Bay Area in various aspects, including innovation within the TCM industry, talent training and the transformation of scientific research developments into concrete  health industry projects.

Leong hopes through enhanced cooperation between Zhuhai and Macau, especially of the Park, Macau will play its specific role as a window into international trade to help enterprises explore Portuguese-speaking country markets, the European Union and to attract foreign companies and quality products to enter the mainland Chinese market.

Guo Yonghang noted that Zhuhai will consciously assume the missions and responsibilities of supporting the development of Macau’s economy in an appropriate and diversified manner.

Leong also took the opportunity to pay a visit to GMTCM Park.
