Design Institute Limited Company and Payette Associates Inc have won a joint bid for their design of Hengqin Hospital, which will become the first Grade-III Class-A public hospital in Hengqin New Area once built.

The hospital will be constructed by Da Heng Qin Property Co., Ltd and co-developed by the Administrative Committee of Hengqin New Area and First Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou Medical University.

When complete the project will cover 60,000 square meters with floor space of 166,000 square meters and is designed to provide 500 beds. Emergency, outpatient, inpatient and medical laboratory departments are all proposed as well as security systems, administrative management rooms, in-hospital living quarters and outdoor auxiliary infrastructure.

However, the scope of the hospital’s services will radiate throughout the region, according to the Administrative Committee of Hengqin, who say it will complement Macau’s medical resources.

A multi-level greenery system, including a riverside path and garden, will surround the hospital with an expected green-space ratio of 35 percent. According to the builder, the planning and design of the building has been driven by five principles: a healing campus, embedded nature, an integrated building, patient-centered design and a high-performing building.
