Hengqin and Alibaba join forces to implement Smart City

The Administrative Committee of Hengqin New Area and Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba Group have agreed to a strategic partnership framework.

Alibaba payment affiliate Ant Financial Service Group will assist in the process, with the three parties to conduct in-depth cooperation on cloud computing, government affairs, people’s livelihoods, urban governance and e-commerce.

Zhuhai Da Hengqin Technology Development Co. Ltd, the developer and promoter of the Hengqin “Smart Island” plan, has also signed a strategic co-operation agreement with Alibaba Cloud, a subsidiary of Alibaba Group which develops cloud computing and data management.

The agreement will allow Zhuhai Da Hengqin to use cloud computing services, AI technology, City Brain, the urban Internet of Things (IOT) and the IntelliSense System provided by Alibaba Cloud in the construction of Hengqin Smart Island. Infrastructure and platforms such as the multi-dimensional urban cloud platform and IOT will be a focus.

Hengqin has already built one big data cloud computing center, according to the Hengqin government. Based on that, Hengqin will build its City Brain jointly with Alibaba to promote the digitization and intelligence of public services as well as to improve service capabilities with modern information technology.

Hengqin and Alibaba will also promote the availability of internet access in public places in Hengqin and output services in areas such as smart government affairs, people’s livelihoods, smart tourism and financial supervision.

Alibaba Group formed a partnership with the Macau Government in August last year and with Zhuhai Government in March of this year regarding smart city development.
