Construction of Phase I of Hengqin Science Town began on 24 August, starting with its Rental Housing project which will provide 6,900 apartments and some stand-alone houses for employees as well as auxiliary facilities such as a kindergarten.
Designed to be a leading modern green comprehensive industrial park, Hengqin Science Town Phrase 1 will be dedicated to artificial intelligence, big data, cloud computing and life science with emphasis on urban functions for industry-city integration according to its developer, Zhuhai Da Heng Qin Science City Development & Management Company.
The Rental Housing project, being a key part of Phase 1 of Hengqin Science Town, will be located west of West Ring Road and south of North Qinhai Road in Hengqin New Area.
It will include 12 houses with ownership rights shared by the government and private buyers, 16 apartment buildings and three hotels and other commercial components.
According to the builder, China Construction 3rd Engineering Bureau Co, Phase 1 is the largest engineering, procurement and construction contract ever designated in the history of housing construction in China, valued at RMB10.5 billion.
The entire project will cost RMB15 billion and is expected to be completed by 2021.
