Canada’s McGill University opens architecture workstation in Hengqin

The McGill University Peter Guo-hua Fu School of Architecture in Canada has opened a new global workstation in Hengqin New Area.

Located on the 25th floor of the Hengqin Headquarters Tower, the workstation is expected to provide an opportunity for global exchanges and attract expertise for Hengqin’s architectural development.

The station is one of the results of a strategic cooperation agreement signed in March between the Management Committee of Hengqin New Area of Zhuhai City, McGill University of Canada and Da Heng Qin Innovation & Development, a local subsidiary of a state-owned company.

According to the agreement, McGill University will push for some science and technology projects to settle in Hengqin. Based on the Hengqin TianMu QinTai Industry Park, currently under construction, several invited projects in biomedicine, architecture, artificial intelligence, big data analysis and cloud computing will land in this region.

Hengqin TianMu QinTai Industry Park, which is set to become one of the landmarks of Hengqin, involves Peter Guo-hua Fu’s design team. The building complex will accommodate the Hengqin New Area Planning Exhibition Hall, a boutique hotel, offices and commercial facilities, a yacht club, conference center and showrooms and is expected to be complete by December 2019.

McGill University in Montreal, Quebec was founded in 1821 and is noted for high-quality research. The School of Architecture was renamed to recognize the Chinese architect Peter Guo-hua Fu’s US$12-million donation – the largest donation in the school’s history. He was once a student at McGill University and now teaches there as a professor.
