The prestigious Harrow School from the UK will open a second Zhuhai campus in Tangjiawan, it revealed at a signing ceremony, with classes set to start in September 2020. A previously announced Hengqin campus will start classes at the same time.
Tangjiawan District is located 30 kilometers north of Hengqin Island. It is planned by the Zhuhai Government to be an education center of Zhuhai and is already home to four universities – Zhuhai College (Beijing Institute of Technology), Zhuhai College (Beijing Normal University), Zhuhai Campus (Sun Yat-Sen University) and Zhuhai College (Jilin University).
The Harrow Tangjiawan site is located between the former Pearl Land Amusement Park and Zhuhai Lakewood Golf Club. There will be an Innovation Leadership Academy (ILA) and Teacher Training Center operated by Harrow International (China) Group and accredited by Harrow School, with construction set to begin in the first half of 2019.
The Teacher Training Center will be for domestic and overseas instructors from Harrow schools as well as from the Innovation Leadership Academy.
The two Harrow schools will hold classes from kindergarten through to Grade 12, with both Chinese and international curricula for local and overseas students. Each will accommodate up to 1,500 students. The tuition fee is expected to be set in accordance with Harrow Beijing and Harrow Shanghai, which average RMB200,000 per year.
Harrow School was established in London in 1572 and is one of the most recognized education brands worldwide. Outstanding graduates include UK Prime Minister Winston Churchill and Jawaharlal Nehru, the first prime minister of India. There are currently Harrow International Schools in Bangkok, Hong Kong, Beijing and Shanghai.
