China Tennis Club League returns to Hengqin

The 2018 China Tennis Club League recently completed a two-day event that saw 150 tennis players comprising 18 teams battle it out on the courts of the Hengqin International Tennis Center in Shizimen Business District.

Now in its second year, the Zhuhai event was the last of four competitions in the league’s South Division – all held in different cities – and attracted retired professional tennis players from Hong Kong, Chinese Taipei and South Korea.

The newly developed China Tennis Club League is the largest, highest-level and most comprehensive amateur teams event within the Chinese Tennis Association. The main goal is to develop clubs of all kinds through the competition, management and club rating system so that clubs can promote the development of national fitness, the organizing committee said.

This year’s program began in March and will run through November. It is expected to attract 2,000 participants across 11 meets.

The Zhuhai event attracted 18 teams from Guangzhou, Zhuhai, Shenzhen and Dongguan, representing 13 clubs. They were divided into two groups: Youth for those over 18 and Middle-Aged for those over 40.

The Guangdong Tennis Federation prevailed in the Youth Group while a Guangzhou-based sports club claimed the Middle-Aged title. The two champion teams shared a prize pool of 60,000 yuan and also won direct entry to the year-end final competition.
